UniLab joins jury at EUDIS Defence Hackathon 2025

News
We’re proud to announce that UniLab’s CEO, Andris Baumanis, was invited to join the jury panel at the EUDIS Defence Hackathon 2025, which took place in Rēzekne, Latvia. The hackathon brought together over 70 participants, 17 teams, and nearly 30 mentors in a dynamic, high-intensity 48-hour innovation sprint to create solutions aimed at strengthening European security.

The event was a milestone — the first international defence innovation hackathon held in Latvia — and it highlighted the incredible talent, drive, and technical know-how of local and international innovators. The hackathon was organized by RTU Science and Innovation Centre in collaboration with the Latvian Ministry of Defence, LMT Defence, and other partners, including UniLab.

A huge congratulations to all the participating teams for their creativity, resilience, and teamwork. Special recognition goes to the winning team, EchoSentinel, which developed a compact AI-powered acoustic monitoring system capable of detecting threats in conditions where traditional visual surveillance methods are less effective. The team, made up of young engineers and scientists from Riga Technical University (RTU), will represent Latvia in the international EUDIS finals this July, and received a €5,000 prize and access to a European defence mentorship program.

We’re thrilled to see innovation thriving in Latvia’s regions — and proud that UniLab could contribute to this important initiative.
