As part of State Cities of Riga 'Riga startups ecosystem support program' UniLab is rolling out The Entrepreneurial Gene initiative. The aim is to promote entrepreneurship amongst students and academic faculty. It is a series of moderated guest lectures (mainly in fire-side chat or keynote format) and events (workshops) within the university ecosystem motivating and fostering entrepreneurship.
Entrepreneurial Gene's mission is to positively build the image of the entrepreneur in academia and to inspire entrepreneurs to start their own business. Often those involved in science and research are reluctant to go into business, e.g. by commercializing their research results. Thus, it is important to show numerous examples and inspire them to do so by showing first-hand the stories of founders of other deep-tech companies.
The topics of the guest lectures and events are aligned with the university priority areas - Agrifood (food, agriculture technologies), Climate & Raw Materials (Greentech, Cleantech); Mobility (smart city, mobility); Digital (apps, deep-tech. IT, 5G, cyber security); Defence & Space.
